Add a Steam query server
Rust, DayZ, Garry's Mod, and similar hosts. Submit host + port for A2S refresh.
Steam query games are listed by address and a query port, and every one of them keeps its player count refreshed on its own once that port is right. Three have a well-known default port; the rest need you to tell us the exact query port, which is not always the one players type to connect.
| Game | Usual port | Player counts |
|---|---|---|
| Rust | 28015 | Yes, refreshed for you |
| Garry's Mod | 27015 | Yes, refreshed for you |
| DayZ | 2302 | Yes, refreshed for you |
| Arma | you tell us | Yes, refreshed for you |
| Hell Let Loose | you tell us | Yes, refreshed for you |
Squad is not submitted here: every live Squad server is already listed from Epic, so find yours and claim it instead of pasting an address. See Add a game server.
What to paste#
Go to /dashboard/servers/games, pick the game chip, and give it a public host and a port:
Host or IP: 203.0.113.10
Port: 28015It has to be the query port, which is not always the port players type to connect, and it has to be reachable from the internet. Leave the port blank and the usual one for that game is assumed. A LAN address or a port behind a firewall will list fine and then sit at Unknown forever, which is the single most common thing that goes wrong here.
It lists straight away#
These are known games, so your listing appears under Listed by you and on /servers/games without waiting for anybody. The exception is the 18+ box: tick it and a person reads the listing before it goes out. Anything submitted as Other or custom is read by a person too.
Proving it is yours#
Steam query hosts prove themselves the same way FiveM and Minecraft do: a code goes into the server's own name for a few minutes. Open the listing, choose Verify ownership, and put the code where that game reads it:
| Game | Where the code goes |
|---|---|
| Rust | server name (server.hostname) |
| Garry's Mod | hostname |
| DayZ | hostname in serverDZ.cfg |
| Arma | hostname in server.cfg |
| Hell Let Loose | server name |
Save, restart or reload if your host needs that, then press Check within ten minutes. Take the code back out once it says verified. Only Other and custom listings, which have nothing to query, still go to a staff review.
How the numbers get there#
A query goes out as soon as you submit, so a working host usually has players and a map within a minute or two. After that the listing is re-queried on a rolling schedule, roughly every half hour per host.
When a query cannot get through, the last figures you had are kept rather than blanked, and the card is marked stale so nobody reads yesterday's player count as tonight's. A host that has never answered shows Unknown, which is the state to investigate: wrong query port first, then the firewall, then whether the address is public at all.
If half an hour is too slow#
Rust and Garry's Mod hosts who want their count to move in real time can install the optional Dispresso Plugin. Turn on live tracking from your listing in the hub and you get a token to paste into the plugin config. The token is shown once and cannot be read back, so copy it before you close the box; if you lose it, turn live tracking on again for a fresh one, which retires the old token. The scheduled refresh keeps working either way, so this is something you add when you want it, not a requirement.
