Dispresso Bot
Quick start
Invite the bot, tell it what to set up in plain words, and open /botdashboard or the site for the rest.
Adding Dispresso does not switch anything on. What it does is make a #dispresso-bot channel at the top of your server, hidden from everyone but your admins, and ask the owner there what to set up. Until an admin answers it, or runs /botdashboard, the rest of the commands only answer inside that one channel. This catches out most people who think the bot arrived broken.
1. Add it#
Use Add to Discord in the top nav and pick your server. You need Manage Server on that Discord to add anything at all.
The invite asks for Administrator. Two of those permissions do the real work and are worth keeping whatever you decide about the rest: Manage Roles, without which autoroles, level roles, booster roles and jail cannot do their job, and Manage Channels, which is what lets it make the setup channel in the first place.
2. Tell it what you want#
show me all the features
set up welcome messages
set up tickets in #tickets with support, bug reports, staff app
set up leveling
make the invites go to #invitesAnswer the question in #dispresso-bot, or say dispresso and a sentence anywhere it can read. It asks one thing at a time (which channel, mention one, here or make one), shows you the result, and switches the module on. An admin talking to it clears the setup lock the same way the dashboard does. The whole list of sentences is on Talk to Dispresso.
Nothing it says is guessed. Every question and every answer was written ahead of time, and a setting it writes is the same row the dashboard writes, so you can start in chat and finish on a page, or the other way round.
The other two doors: /botdashboard and the site#
/botdashboardThat one command also clears the setup lock and opens the control panel, in Discord, as a set of pages you can page through. Every module has an On and Off switch and a Configure button. Nothing you do here needs a separate setup command per module.

The website has the same thing with more room for the parts that are long lists of text: open /dashboard, pick your server, and work from there instead. All three write to the same place, so it does not matter which you use.
3. Turn on two things, not twenty#
Almost everything arrives switched off, which means adding Dispresso changes nothing your members can see until you decide it should. Pick the two you actually want this week. Most servers start with Welcome, so joins get a card, and either Moderation or Leveling depending on what kind of server it is. dispresso set up welcome messages and dispresso turn on moderation are those two. You can come back for the rest.
A module that is off does not answer, and does not explain itself either. If you turned something on and a member says the command does nothing, check you saved on the right server.
4. How members will type things#
Slash commands are the canonical way to play; the ! spelling is an alias
Both spellings run the same code and show the same answer. The slash form lives under a group where there are many verbs, and a group opens its menu at its home: type /zoo home, /eco home or /gang home. A standalone command opens its home when you leave the argument off, the way bare /zoobattle does. Here: !bump is /bump, !rank is /rank, !warn is /mod warn. The commands page shows the pair on every row.
The chat prefix is ! unless you change it, and you change it with /server prefix, !setprefix or by saying dispresso set the prefix to $. Mentioning the bot works as a prefix at all times, so @Dispresso help gets you back in if somebody sets the prefix to something nobody can remember. Members can talk to it too: dispresso show me my profile, dispresso claim my daily and dispresso open my zoo run the command as them.
/help lists every command that answers in your server, by category, with both spellings on each row. Send members there rather than writing your own list that goes stale.
When it looks broken#
| What you are seeing | What it usually is |
|---|---|
| Commands only work in one channel | The setup lock is still on. Answer the bot in #dispresso-bot as an admin, or run /botdashboard anywhere, and it clears. |
| Typing ! does nothing at all | The prefix is not what you think. Mention the bot instead, then check with /server prefix. |
| A slash command is missing from the list | Discord hides admin commands from members without Manage Server. Server Settings, Integrations, Dispresso is where you change who sees what. |
| It answers, but refuses to act on one member | That member's highest role sits above Dispresso's. Move Dispresso up the role list. It never acts on the server owner at all. |
| A member is told their roles cannot use something | Someone has narrowed that command on its module page. The refusal names where to change it. |
Where to go next#
- Who can use what, once you have staff and want them to have less than you.
- Welcome and the Moderation Suite, which is where most servers spend their first hour.
- The server directory, if you want people to find you.
/bumpis free and gets your listing back to the top.
