Quotes

Turn any message into a quote card by replying qt, or with the Quote this right-click action.

Reply to a message with the single word quote and it comes back drawn as a card: the line, the person who said it, their avatar, the date, and a Jump to original button. Custom emoji and stickers draw as the real art rather than :name: text, a GIF or a picture freezes on its first frame since the card itself is a still image, and if the message carries more than one photo the rest sit on the card as smaller thumbnails. Your reply is deleted on the way through so the channel keeps only the card. qt and quote this do the same, and a trailing full stop or exclamation mark does not break it.

There is a reaction door as well. React to a message with 💬 and it is quoted the same way, which saves typing anything at all. You can switch the reaction off and leave only the reply word.

Or just tell the bot#

Say it in chat
turn on quotes
dispresso make the quote card background dark blue
dispresso quote text colour cream
dispresso archive quotes in #quote-archive
dispresso post the weekly top quote in #quote-of-the-week
dispresso what does the quote card look like
dispresso quote that (as a reply)

The card's background, text colour, font and layout, and where quotes and the weekly top quote are archived, are all set this way, the same appearance editor the dashboard writes to. quote that is a third door for members, the same card as the reply word. Start with dispresso or mention it. It asks for anything it still needs, writes the same settings the dashboard writes, and the whole list of sentences is on Talk to Dispresso.

Where the card lands#

By default it is posted right where the conversation is. Name an archive channel and every quote goes there instead, and the channel you quoted from gets a short note saying where it went, then cleans it up. Bot messages cannot be quoted by reaction, and a message with no text and no attachment is refused with a line saying there is nothing to quote.

Who can quote#

Four controls, and they stack. You can name the channels quoting listens in, which silences it everywhere else. You can block individual channels. You can require a role, and you can block roles. Somebody who fails any of them and types the reply word is told they cannot quote here; for them the reaction simply does nothing.

Top quote of the week#

Every card the bot posts gets an ⬆️ on it, and with weekly top quotes switched on the most upvoted card of the last seven days is posted again in the channel you pick for it, with an optional role ping. If no card picked up a single vote that week, nothing is posted.

Styling and custom emoji need server premium

The background, the colours, the font size, and where the profile photo, the quote text and the quoted photo sit on the card, plus swapping 💬 or ⬆️ for emoji of your own, are all server premium. Without it the card draws in the default style and the default emoji are used even when something else is saved, so a server that sets a custom trigger emoji and sees nothing happen is looking at this.

Premium servers set all of it from the appearance editor on the Quotes page of the dashboard: drag the profile photo and the quoted photo to where you want them, pick a font size, and a live preview redraws as you go. Everything else, including turning quotes on, is set from /botdashboard under Quotes too.
