Music

Play music in a voice channel: a queue, a control panel, DJ roles, saved playlists, public Apple Music links, and SoundCloud sets. Spotify library import is optional and currently blocked.

Music plays in a voice channel from a search or a link, with a queue, loop and shuffle, a control panel you can put in a channel, DJ roles for who may drive it, and playlists members save under their own name. Join a voice channel and run /music play, or the shortcut !play. Paste a public Apple Music playlist, album, or song, or a SoundCloud track or set, into /music play or /playlist import and it plays through SoundCloud. That works without an Apple developer programme and without paying for anything. Spotify library import is a separate, optional path, and it is currently blocked because Spotify locked its library API behind Premium, so nobody needs to upgrade Spotify or Apple to use the rest of this. The now playing card waits until you can hear the track, then a progress bar updates on that same message.

Or just tell the bot#

Say it in chat
set up music
make the music panel go to #music-controls
send the now playing posts to #music
dj only on
turn off now playing

set up music asks for the panel channel and then the now playing channel; same puts both in one. Start with dispresso or mention it. It asks for anything it still needs, writes the same settings the dashboard writes, and the whole list of sentences is on Talk to Dispresso.

Where to set it up#

The switch is the Music tile in /botdashboard or the Music page at /dashboard/<your server>/music. A server that never opens the page still has a working bot: anybody can play, the queue holds 500, the bot leaves an empty channel on its own, and what is playing is posted in the channel the music was started from, one card that updates in place as tracks change rather than a fresh post each time. The page is for the choices on top of that.

  • DJ roles and Only DJs can control playback. Anybody with Manage Server counts as a DJ, so you cannot lock yourself out, and whoever queued a track can always skip or remove that one track.
  • Allowed voice channels, if the bot should only play in some of them.
  • Starting volume, the longest queue, how long the bot waits in an empty channel, and where now-playing posts go.

The panel#

/music panel #channel posts a control panel with play, pause, skip and the rest as buttons, and makes that channel the request line: anything typed in it is treated as a song request and the message is cleaned up.

Commands#

!play, !skip, !pause, !resume, !stop, !np and !queue are shortcuts for the /music commands below, and say the same thing as !music play, !music skip and the rest.

Copy and paste
/music play <search or link> play, or add to the queue
/music queue what is lined up next
/music nowplaying what is playing right now
/music skip /music pause /music resume /music stop
/music volume <0-150> above 100 is amplified and distorts past about 150
/music loop <track|queue|off>
/music shuffle /music remove <n> /music clear /music seek <time>
/music panel [#channel] the control panel, and the request line
/playlist import <url> save a public Apple Music or SoundCloud playlist, album, or song
/playlist connect Spotify library import is optional and currently blocked
/playlist spotify same note as /playlist connect
/playlist reimport <name> same note as /playlist connect
/playlist create <name> save what is playing and queued, under a name
/playlist play <name> queue a playlist you saved
/playlist list /playlist show /playlist delete /playlist rename
!playlist import <url> same as /playlist import

A playlist is made out of whatever is loaded at the moment you save it, so queue the tracks first and then run /playlist create. Or paste a public Apple Music link or a SoundCloud set into /playlist import. YouTube playlist links do not play here. Saving over a name you have already used asks you to say so first. The catalog is the list, not the stream.

  • /music playalso !music play
Play a song or add it to the queue, from a search, a SoundCloud link, or a public Apple Music playlist, album or song. `!play creepin` is the same command.
  • /music queue
    What is lined up next.
  • /music skip
Skip the track that is playing.
  • /music panel
Put the music control panel in a channel. Server staff only.
  • /playlist importalso !playlist import
Turn a public Apple Music playlist, album, or song, or a SoundCloud track or set, into a saved playlist. The catalog is the list. Audio plays from SoundCloud.
  • /playlist connectalso !playlist connect
Spotify library import is optional and currently blocked. Spotify locked its Web API behind Premium. Public Apple links and SoundCloud sets still work.
  • /playlist spotifyalso !playlist spotify
Spotify library import is currently blocked. Paste a public Apple Music link or a SoundCloud set.
  • /playlist reimportalso !playlist reimport
Spotify library import is currently blocked.
  • /playlist play
    Queue a playlist you saved.
  • /playlist list
    Your saved playlists.
