Modules
Leveling
Message and voice XP, no-XP channels or roles, level roles, and rank cards.
!rank draws both of your ladders on one card: your level here, and your level across every server running Dispresso. !lvl, !lvls and !level are the same command typed differently, /rank is the slash form and takes somebody else's name, and !grank is the global half on its own.
The global ladder does not belong to your server
Global XP is earned wherever a member talks, whether or not that server has Leveling switched on. Turning this module on does not start somebody's global level, and turning it off does not stop it. What the switch controls is the ladder inside your own server: the XP, the level roles and the announcements.
Asked in the bot's DMs, !rank answers with the global ladder alone, because there is no server to draw the other half for.

How XP is earned#
Messages pay once per cooldown, a minute by default, so a wall of one word messages earns the same as one. Voice pays by the minute, but only while you are neither self-deafened nor the only person in the channel, which is what keeps an empty channel from farming overnight. You can exempt channels and roles from server XP, and exempting a channel exempts the threads under it too.
Role multipliers raise the rate for people holding a role you pick. They apply to the server ladder only.
A server with its own developer key can grant server XP through the developer API too. A grant goes through the same ladder as a message or a voice minute, so the level, the level roles it unlocks and the announcement all follow exactly as they would from playing.
Level roles#
Attach a role to a level and it is handed out when somebody reaches it. By default only the highest role a member has earned is held and the one below it is taken back, so the roles read as ranks; switch on stacking and they keep every one they have passed. Editing the thresholds later fixes itself on the next level up, including taking back a role somebody no longer qualifies for.
Dispresso cannot hand out a role above its own
Discord will not let any bot grant a role that sits higher in the role list than its own highest role, so a level role placed above Dispresso is skipped in silence. If a level role never arrives, drag the Dispresso role above it and check the bot has Manage Roles.
Announcements, and your own switches#
Level ups are posted in the channel you name, with the roles they unlocked listed under them. With no channel named, nothing is announced anywhere.
Two things are yours rather than the server's. !hideonlbs takes you off the public leaderboards and !showonlbs puts you back. !gldm off stops the DM you get when your global level goes up, and !gldm on starts it again; that one works in any server and in the bot's DMs, so turning it back on does not mean hunting for the message you turned it off from.
- !gldmalso /rankTurn global level-up DMs on or off, or show their current state. Runs anywhere (a guild or the bot's DMs) because the whole point is that a member who has already turned the DMs off can still switch them back on from any server Dispresso is in.
