Role management
The plain role commands staff type: list the server's roles or one member's, and give somebody a role that already exists.
Two plain role commands, separate from the Self Roles menus members pick from themselves. !roles is a lookup anybody can run. !role hands somebody a role that already exists, and only staff can run it.
Or just tell the bot#
make these roles: Member, VIP, Streamer
make the 18+ role @Verified
make the events ping role @EventsMaking roles shows the list and waits for Confirm, and needs Manage Roles. The other two point a setting at a role that already exists: the server's 18+ verified role, and the role Events pings. Start with dispresso or mention it. It asks for anything it still needs, writes the same settings the dashboard writes, and the whole list of sentences is on Talk to Dispresso.
Looking roles up#
!roles every role in the server, with how many hold it
!roles @Member just that member's rolesRoles come back highest first, the same order your server settings show them. Long lists are cut at fifty with a line saying how many more there are, because Discord caps how much one message can hold.
Giving somebody a role#
!role @Colour @Member the role first, then the personThe role comes first and the member second. Swapping them is the usual mistake: Dispresso reads the first thing you typed as a role, so it answers that it cannot find one rather than doing something you did not ask for.
When it refuses, and why#
You are missing Manage Roles. The command needs Discord's own Manage Roles permission in the channel you typed it in.
The role is at or above your own top role. Staff cannot hand out a role that outranks them, or hand one to themselves, which is the same rule Discord applies to the role list in your server settings. The server owner is exempt from it, again like Discord.
Dispresso cannot manage that role. Either the role sits at or above the Dispresso role, or it belongs to another bot or integration and nobody can assign it by hand. Move Dispresso above the roles you want it to manage.
They already have it. Nothing is changed and nothing is logged, so this one is safe to run into.
It refuses rather than half working
Every one of those comes back as a message in the channel. If Dispresso says nothing at all, the command did not reach it: check the server prefix with !setprefix.
Controlling who can use them#
Open Booster Roles on the dashboard and use the Role commands section. You can name the roles allowed to run them, block them in specific channels, and set access for one of the two without touching the other. Leaving those empty is the default and means the Discord permission is the only gate. Administrators and the server owner always have access.
