The platform

The Market

Catalogue, listings, offers, trades, your wallet and your seller portal. Plus businesses, employees and the supply depot.

The Market is where everything you own is worth something to somebody else. It lives at /market and it needs an account, because a wallet, an inventory, a listing and a trade all belong to one. There is nothing here to do signed out, so a signed-out visitor is sent to sign in rather than shown a hub where every control refuses them.

What is in it#

WhereWhat you do there
CatalogueEvery item in the game, and how much of it you have discovered
ExchangeThe live floor: what is listed right now, at what price, by whom
InventoryWhat you are holding, and the button that lists any of it
CollectionsZoo species collections and egg categories, and how far through each you are
WalletYour balances, and the moves between them
SellerYour own listings: edit a price, pull one, see what sold
TradesYour open negotiations, the messages in them, and the offers on the table
Discord!market, !list, !mt buy and !trades, and /market: the same listings and the same settlement
JobsWork for a payout, the same shifts the bot runs
CasinoThe games, played in the same coins
ZooYour zoo board on the site, the same one /zoo opens in Discord

Listing something#

Open your inventory, pick the thing, set a price, list it. Listing takes the item out of your inventory in the same move, so from that moment it is the listing and nothing else. It cannot be listed twice, hatched, placed or given away while it sits there. Pull the listing from your seller portal and it comes straight back.

How a trade actually settles#

Pressing Purchase does not buy anything. It opens a chat between the two of you, and either side can post messages or post an offer: a named listing at a named price. Posting a new offer supersedes the last one. The trade happens when the other side accepts a specific offer.

Accepting settles the offer, not the listing. The price charged is read off the offer that was accepted, so a counter posted a second earlier cannot be accepted by mistake: it has already been superseded and the accept refuses rather than charging the old number. Either the coins and the item both move or neither does, so there is no window where you have paid and not received.

If a seller wants to add something mid chat, they list it first and point the offer at the new listing. That is why everything on the table is already out of both inventories: swapping what is being traded is only a matter of pointing the offer somewhere else.

Businesses#

A business is a works you build, staff and collect from. It stands on real land: a works sits on a hex, and that is the hex the server map shows it on.

Hiring somebody#

Employees are invited, not assigned. You send an offer at a named wage, and it sits in their inbox with an Accept and a Decline on it until they answer. The owner sees what is still outstanding on the works.

The wage lives on the invitation rather than on the business. What was offered is what lands on the books when it is accepted, so an owner cannot promise one figure in the message somebody said yes to and write a different one down.

An invitation moves no money and cannot cost the person invited anything, so an empty wallet is never a reason it fails. One offer stands per person per works: a second invite to somebody who has not answered is the same offer at a new wage and replaces the first.

The supply depot#

The depot sells crates for Bank Coins, for a business, a gang or an army. Buy one, open it, and what is inside goes to your inventory, where it can be used or listed like anything else you own. Crates can be opened in Discord as well as here, so a crate somebody bought from you is a crate they can actually use.

In Discord#

!market opens the hub in any server with the economy module on. Browse puts the board in the channel with a Purchase button beside every listing and View full listing under it; Purchase asks you to confirm before any coins move, and the confirmation re-reads the listing so the price you agree to is the price on the row now. Sell something picks from what you actually hold. Your listings takes one back down. Trade chats is where your haggles stand and whose move it is.

!list 8mq7 5000 lists the animal with that code (!zoostorage prints them) at that price; bare !list opens the same picker the Sell button does. !mt buy 12 opens a haggle over listing 12 in the bot's DMs, on both sides, and either of you can counter until somebody accepts. !trades lists your open chats, and !chats is the same list under a name people reach for.

/market is the same market as a slash command: browse all, cosmetics or animals, buy a listing by its number, list or cancel, and leave the seller +rep or -rep once the sale has gone through.

A purchase in Discord settles the same way one on the site does: the listing is claimed first so it can only sell once, the coins move, the exact item you were shown lands in your inventory or storage, and the seller is sent a DM saying who bought it and for how much.

Giving something away#

Not everything that changes hands is a sale. /inventory is the one page for everything you hold that could move: animals, eggs, cosmetics, armour and weapons, each with the handle the other commands answer to. It works in the bot's DMs, because an inventory belongs to you rather than to a server.

Copy and paste
/inventory [family] everything you hold that could change hands
!gifts animal one family, with the handle each thing answers to
!gift animal dv72 @member give that exact animal to that person
!trade @member open a swap with somebody: both sides put things up
!trades every trade chat you are in, either side

There are five families: animal, egg, cosmetic, armor and weapon. An animal is named by its four character code, so you always hand over the one you meant.

A gift has no take-backs

!gift moves the thing and ends. There is no accept step and no undo, so check the handle before you press enter. An animal has to be in storage rather than standing in a square, and a server with the zoo switched off will not pass animals or eggs at all, though a sword is none of its business and goes anyway.

A gift counts against the same daily ceiling on what two accounts can move between them that a swap does, so giving rather than trading is not a way round anything.
