ID Verification
What is checked, what is stored, and what your server is told.
Some servers need to know a member is a real person, or a real adult, before they get in. This gives them a role for a document check taken on Dispresso, and nobody in your server ever sees the document.
Or just tell the bot#
set up verification
make the verification go to #verify
turn off verificationThe verified and adult role lists are still picked on the dashboard. Start with dispresso or mention it. It asks for anything it still needs, writes the same settings the dashboard writes, and the whole list of sentences is on Talk to Dispresso.
What a member does#
They press Verify on Dispresso on the panel, which takes them to their Dispresso settings, and finish the check there. Their roles are applied as soon as it comes through. Somebody who verified last month, or who joined after verifying, presses I verified on the same panel and gets their roles then. Either way the answer is shown only to them, so pressing the button does not tell the channel who has verified and who has not.
It is done once per account, not once per server. Verify for one Dispresso server and you pick up your roles in the next one by pressing a button.
What is kept, and what staff are told#
The document is read by the verification provider Dispresso uses. You do not see it, your staff do not see it, and no date of birth is kept from it. The only things recorded are that the check passed and whether the document showed eighteen or over.
Those are also the only two things your server is ever told. There is no way to ask this for somebody's age, their name or their country of birth.
Two lists of roles#
Verified roles go to anybody whose check passed. Adult roles go only to those whose document showed eighteen or over. Use one list, the other, or both. A check that passes for somebody under eighteen still gives the verified roles and none of the adult ones.
Setting it up#
!idverifypanel post the panel here (/server idverify panel)
!idpanel the same command, shorterThe slash spelling sits under /server with the other setup doors, so it costs no extra application command.
Needs Manage Server, and posting the panel switches the module on. Choose your roles first on the ID Verification page of the dashboard: with none chosen the panel verifies people and gives them nothing, which reads as a broken button. The reply you get after posting tells you if that is where you are.
Write your own words for the panel on the same page. It is worth the two minutes, because a bot asking for a passport with no explanation looks like a scam. A panel keeps working for as long as it sits in the channel, so post one and leave it.
Roles above Dispresso cannot be given
Discord will not let any bot hand out a role at or above its own, so move the Dispresso role above the ones you chose in Server Settings, Roles. A member who runs into it is told which roles were held back and why.
A server that already runs the birthday gate can put the same verification button on that panel instead, using the roles the gate already has. Use this module when you would rather not ask for birthdays at all and the document check is the whole door.
Commands#
- !idverifypanelalso /server idverify panelPost the verification panel. Members verify on Dispresso and pick up the roles this server chose.
